Trying to come up with the next killer beat? Apparently you could just write a single line of code… :)
Check out this article on Create Digital Music to hear some really interesting techno/drum ‘n’ bass rhythms that morph over time, seemingly giving the impression of a structured composition, even though they all stem from simple algorithms. Truly mesmerising!

Great Collaboration between theYamaha Design Studio and the Design Products Department of RCA, Royal College of Art.  The exhibition is running as part of theLondon Design Festival

In this video:

Sam Weller, from The Royal College of Art, got an idea: create a device that would allow every object around us to become an instrument, amplifying their natural resonance. He worked with Yamaha and got these beautiful results.

The course:

The students have been looking at and developing devices that enable the audience and performer to achieve greater intimacy. Yamaha has always thought that musical instruments are not only things that stimulate the musician, but also devices that encourage the audience members themselves to participate in the performance.

Many more Yamaha apps are joining the ecosystem!

fyeahpianos:

Pianos are such marvellous, highly evolved pieces of technology. To all the amazing artisans and inventors who have contributed to its beautiful engineering over the last few centuries, I salute you!

Yeah, synths are cool and all that, but plastic keys, springs, leaf switches and rubber end-stops really aren’t that evolved compared to what has come before.

[Disclosure: cheekily self-reblogging this from fyeahpianos which I intermittently co-curate just so I can (re-)find this image easier in future when daydreaming about complex mechanical devices.]

What if notation where more meaningful and figurative :)  What if music where visual too…

Matteo Negrin - Music painting, “Lacrime di Giulietta”

This has been making its way around the Internet recently; one of the coolest video ideas I’ve seen in a while.
